Sugar Land Police will soon be equipped with the latest in traffic radar technology following city councilís approval of the purchase of 28 new Stalker DSR radar units.

The new radar units will be purchased at a price of $69,020 with a trade-in allowance of $800 for older models being traded in. The new radar units take the place of versions purchased in 2003 and that were scheduled for replacement this year.

The purchase will be made through the Houston Galveston Area Councilís government procurement process. As a high technology procurement, the purchase was exempt from state bidding laws. Funding for the new radars will come from the cityís high technology replacement fund.

The purchase was approved unanimously.
