The number of such devices discovered by the Guardia Civil is up by 57% on last year.
The Guardia Civil has found 1,700 Spanish drivers with illegal anti-radar detectors and inhibitors in their vehicles this year. The number is up 57% on last year at this time.
Drivers have been installing the devices to be able to safely break the speed limit by detecting radar traps in the first case, and jamming the signal in the second.
Under the current law the sale of the detectors and inhibitors is legal, but their installation in a car is not. Those caught with the device installed in their vehicles face a 600 € fine, but many would rather pay that than be caught speeding and face larger fines and the removal of points from their driving licence.
