Slow down or pay up. That's the warning for drivers who travel through the interchange at Austin Bluffs and Union. On Thursday police will be cracking down on speeders in that construction zone, because workers there are concerned about their safety.
Now that the overpass is open, drivers are speeding through area and are notít obeying the posted 25 mph speed limit.
"There are workers pretty close to the edge and there is equipment moving back and forth with traffic," said Mike Chaves, Senior Engineer on the project.
Construction workers are getting fed up. This week, Lawrence Construction asked the police department for help.
"The contractor called the police department and asked if they could do more enforcement," Chaves said.
So on Thursday police will be out in full force beginning at 7a.m. looking for speeders and remember in a cone zone, those fines are doubled.
The area will be a construction zone until November, thatís when the entire project is set to be complete.
