Tallahassee, Florida – On October 1, 2008, new traffic laws enacted by the Florida Legislature will take effect that hopefully will dissuade motorists from driving erratically or recklessly. CS/HB 137 was passed increasing fines and allowing for license suspensions for drivers who operate vehicles in excess of the speed limit of 50 miles per hour or more.
For persons operating motorcycles, a rider must keep both wheels on the road at all times and permanently affix their license plate horizontally to the ground. The license plate cannot have the ability to be flipped up so as to be obscured from view.
For a first offense, a driver will be fined $1000. For a second offense, a driver will be fined $2500 and their license revoked for a period of one year. For a third offense, a driver will face a felony charge, be fined $5000 and have their license revoked for a period of 10 years.
For a complete listing of motor vehicle laws, check out www.flhsmv.gov or www.flsenate.gov

f**k! This was one of my favorite things about Florida. You could get a ticket for just about any speed and as long as you were not breaking another law it wasn't reckless and you could keep your license. Looks like no more sprints past 120 on the open interstate (well maybe with a really really good rabbit). Makes sense anywhere else but the interstate though... Going over 105 (lets say 130 for example) on a two lane highway (lets say in the everglades for example) is pretty stupid........

The more I think about it the more this is pissing me off//worrying me.

A felony for a traffic violation is bullsh*t unless it is outright reckless!

EDIT: I just re-read it has to be the third offense to be a felony, but I still do not like this law at all.

I am just saying... I don't think you should become a felon over it. Lose your right to vote, carry a gun(or even own one), get a real job, etc.
