MORAINE — Moraine police will target motorists for various violations on weekend evenings in December in a high-visibility enforcement overtime traffic detail.
As part of the same traffic detail, the department in November issued 28 citations on violations of speed, driving under suspension and not using a seat belt.
The detail is the result of a $24,642 High Visibility Enforcement Overtime 2009 federal grant awarded to the department in October. It went into effect Oct. 24 and continues through September 2009.
The grant is awarded to communities to decrease the number of fatal traffic crashes.
The department won the competitive grant because of the number of fatal crashes — seven — in the city in the last three years, said Lt. John Setty.
The grant provides 100 percent reimbursement to the police department for stepped-up patrols.
