ORLANDO -- You better watch out -- dozens of drivers learned about the return of an annual Orange County tradition the hard way Tuesday when they got handed a traffic ticket from a holiday elf.
Every holiday season for the last several years, the Orange County Sheriff's Office has used someone dressed up as an elf, Santa Claus or even the Grinch to bag drivers breaking the law.
In just two hours Tuesday morning, Santa's little helper helped issue over 60 citations, most of them for running red lights.
Deputies said more than a dozen people have died in crashes on local roads in just the last few days, and that could be totally avoidable.
"We're not having that many homicides or overdoses. We get people not paying attention out here, and it's causing a lot of tragedy," said Richard Lockman, the ever-watchful elf.
Similar traffic details are planned throughout the county all week.
