I bet the police hate when the courts rule against one of their profiling methods. They are now thinking they should not have let this one go this far.
The sad part is all the officer had to do was testify he 'didn't see the permit' and the stop would have been perfectly legal. There was a similar DUI case where a guy who had a front plate was pulled over for not having one, because the officer did not see it and believed it wasn't there the stop was legal because he had a reasonable suspicion, and before he looked at the front of the vehicle he smelled alcohol on the guys breath and locked him up for DUI. So if this officer just testilied that he didnt see the permit, and then suspected the guy was on meth prior to finding out the permit was there and valid the court would have probably upheld the stop.
