January 5, 2009

The state will unveil a new safety campaign today in Green Bay targeting traffic fatalities.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s campaign is called “Zero in Wisconsin – A Vision We Can All Live With.” According to the DOT, the theme of the campaign is that one preventable traffic death is one too many.

Zero in Wisconsin messages will be shown on TV, radio and Web sites statewide. Mike Knetzger, whose stepdaughter, Ashley Britsch-Knetzger, and Talhia Heroux were killed in a traffic crash in June, is scheduled to speak at the news conference

Officials also are expected to announce that the number of traffic fatalities in 2008 was the lowest yearly total since the 1940s.

The news conference will be at 1:30 p.m. at the DOT, 944 Vanderperren Way, Ashwaubenon.
