DICKSON, Okla. (AP) - The southern Oklahoma town of Dickson could be facing having to pay up to $350,000 in refunds on traffic fines.
The town is being ordered by a Carter County judge to refund a 2005 reckless driving fine to former Sulphur resident Dr. Franklin House. The judge found that Dickson's traffic ordinances were not recorded with the county clerk as required by state law.
Without the filing with the county clerk only fines of $50 or less can be enforced.
An attorney for House says he and two partners will ask for refunds for up to 2,000 other drivers who were given traffic tickets in Dickson from November 2002 to March 2005.
The attorney says town records indicate those drivers were overcharged about $350,000.
