The AVOID the 10 task force will receive a boost in traffic enforcement efforts with the help of a $550,000 state grant through the Vallejo Police Department. The funds, from the state Office of Traffic Safety, will target inebriated and unlicensed drivers countywide with the use of new equipment and special traffic enforcement measures like DUI checkpoints, saturation patrols, warrant and probation sweeps and court stings. The funding also covers overtime costs for the special activities.
Members of the Vallejo Police Department and the AVOID the 10 task force are also urging Super Bowl Sunday revelers to designate a sober driver. A driver checkpoint will have DUI saturation patrols out on the streets during half time Sunday, police said.
