Default NH could pull E-ZPass from tollbooth speeders

NH could pull E-ZPass from tollbooth speeders

    Associated Press - March 10, 2009 7:05 AM ET
HOOKSETT, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire transportation officials say too many people are going too fast through E-ZPass tollbooths.
Starting this week, they will begin using E-ZPass transponders to track speeding drivers and may take the passes away for repeat offenders.
The Transportation Department says that in one month, 42,000 transponders were clocked at 40 mph or more through the tollbooths. The suggested speed is 10 mph.
Drivers will be sent warning letters asking them to slow down. If they don't, the transponders could be taken away.

Some states are pretty serious about this issue. It's been a problem here in MA.

The speed limit is typically 10 or 15 mph. Many are blowing thru and they're concerned about toll takers getting run down

Seriously, I don't stand for that sh$t one bit. Slow the f$#k down through the tolls. It's not that hard. There are workers present just like in a construction zone. If I were the NHSP, I would setup shop right after the tolls and bag motorists speeding through. Can you imagine the charge for 40 mph in a 15 mph zone? Good way to rack up.

I went skiing in NH last week and we hit a couple of toll booths along the way. Some a-hole behind me laid on the horn cuz I slowed to the speed limit when passing thru the transponder-only lane

They send you letters here in NY and have been doing it for a few years.

They also use easy pass to track traffic flow - transponders on the side of the road - said they do not log the user or speed just where you came from to improve traffic flow.

Makes me think of the average speed cameras in the UK. How long before someone uses e-z pass to do this?

If they do, then people will stop using EZ Passes.
