Hampton Roads speeders targeted
Published: March 13, 2009
Virginia State Police is stepping up patrols along the entire length of Interstate 64 and all interstates in Hampton Roads as part of Operation Air, Land and Speed.
Troopers will be cracking down on speeders on Interstates 64, 264, 464 and 664 today. The special enforcement campaign is meant to remind motorists to slow down, buckle up, and drive responsibly and without distractions.
Last year, a similar effort yielded more than 3,300 violations over two days.
During last summer's operation, two senior troopers from Chesapeake were injured when they were struck by vehicles. The agency reminds motorists that by law they must change lanes or slow down to pass emergency personnel stopped along the side of the road.
