Police Target Aggressive Drivers On Route 22
Highway Has 3,000 Crashes In 4 Years

DELMONT, Pa. -- Speeders and aggressive drivers beware: state troopers and local police departments are planning "tag team" enforcement on Route 22.
Pennsylvania State Police and municipal police officers are joining together for "Tag Team 22," a targeted enforcement effort along the busy roadway.Until Wednesday, police will be looking for speeders, impaired or aggressive drivers and those not wearing seat belts along the 173-mile Route 22 corridor.According to a news release of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, there were nearly 3,000 crashes resulting in 48 fatalities from 2003 through 2007 along the roadway, which runs through nine counties. In Washington, Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Indiana counties along Route 22, there have been 1,385 reported crashes, resulting in 32 fatalities since 2004.Police will be using planes and helicopters to assist with the enforcement.
