Police increase speeding enforcement on 350 South

Lafayette police are stepping up enforcement of speed limits on portions of County Road 350 South's construction zone.

According to Lafayette police traffic Sgt. Max Smith, the increased enforcement started earlier this month after complaints from construction workers about speeding motorists.
The speed limits in the construction zone, between South Ninth Street and Concord Road is 25 mph. Normally, the speed limit for that stretch is 45 mph, Smith said.
The increased enforcement will continue until construction is complete this fall, Smith said.
The $3.96 million project will widen the road to four lanes between Concord Road and South Ninth Street, as well as adding a landscaped median, streetlights, walking and biking trails and a new traffic signal at Regal Valley Drive.
The work is scheduled for completion in October.
