Paul Osborne, Editor Decatur police officers are continuing their efforts to crack down on speeders in accident areas during May.

Information received clearly stated the officers have a "zero tolerance policy for all violations.
Here's the information I received from the DPD:
"The Decatur Police Department will be conducting additional Speed Enforcement Operations in the month of May. The Speed Enforcement Operations are being conducted in an effort to reduce traffic accidents, serious injuries and fatalities.
"Four of the top 10 accident areas defined by the Illinois Department of Transportation will be the focus of the operations. The locations are: 2600- 3400 blocks of North Water, 2600-3400 blocks of North Main Street, 500-900 blocks of South Franklin Street, and the 100-1200 blocks of South Side Drive. "During these operations, the DPD will have a zero tolerance policy for all violations of speed related statutes.
"The Speed Enforcement Program is funded by a grant provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation."
    164 CITATIONS ISSUED IN APRIL
"The Decatur Police Department conducted additional Speed Enforcement Operations in the month of April in an effort to reduce traffic accidents, serious injuries and fatalities.
"During these operations, the DPD had a zero tolerance policy for all violations of speed related statutes. The results of the month long operation include: speeding citations, 137; no insurance citations, 14; suspended/revoked driver arrests, 4; seatbelt violation citations, 0; other citations, 9; and criminal arrests, 1."

Will they be using Decatur radar guns?

Zero Tolerance = Zero Thought Process. Does that mean people going 1 MPH over get a ticket?

Funny how they issue 10 times as many speeding citations as any other. There's no pattern there, not at all...
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Wonder if they get free Radar units from Decatur Radar?

It really boggles my mind they do speed enforcement in areas where you never really see accidents. You ever notice this where you are?

Top Gear has an excellent chart a few years ago during their weekly news segment.

Showed where the deadliest roads where
    Where the speed cameras where
    How the accident rate increased
    How the death toll increased
    How the revenue increased

Apparently speed cameras where set up so that Britain is now a safer place to drive, you're just more likely to end up in an accident or die from one than you where before there where speed cameras.
