DENTON — Do you travel on Interstate 35E? You might want to hit the brakes.
Police along the busy north-south route are launching an enforcement campaign like nothing you've never seen.
The stretch of I-35E being targeted runs from Corinth north to the I-35 east-west split in Denton. It is a dangerous highway — 125 accidents happened along this section last June, July and August. Most crashes were the result of speeding, driver inattention and aggressive driving.
This year, police want to send a message early — in May.
Beginning Friday, 11 officers will cruise the interstate looking for violators in a a program called "Stay Alive on 35." Denton police hope the increased presence will encourage motorists to slow down.
The department emphasizes that program isn't about raising money for the city, but to help people arrive alive.
