ATROLS: Extra officers on lookout this weekend for impaired drivers
By Herald staff
The Richland Police Department and Washington State Patrol are joining forces to conduct DUI emphasis patrols throughout Memorial Day weekend.
The emphasis patrols will start Friday and end Sunday.
Officers and troopers will focus on patrolling areas of the Tri-Cities and Richland where data indicates fatality collisions, injury collisions and DUI-related collisions are most likely to occur.
“Impaired driving continues to be a major problem and concern for all law enforcement agencies within the Tri-Cities region. We are committed to working together to keep our roadways and communities safe. Impaired driving continues to be the primary cause of fatality collisions within our region and we are working hard to change that trend,” said Capt, Shawn Berry of the Washington State Patrol.
In addition to the extra patrols, law enforcement agencies throughout the Tri-Cities will be conducting nighttime seat belt emphasis patrols through June 7.
