ALLAHABAD: With a view to check reckless driving on city roads as well as highways, traffic police department has been equipped with special radar cameras that would immediately identify speed violators.
Experts on Tuesday imparted training to the traffic police personnel on handling the equipment and obtain the date from the machine for initiating penal action against the offenders, stated SP traffic, Uday Shankar Jaiswal.
Initially, the neighbouring districts including Kaushambi, Pratapgarh and Fatehpur have been provided with one camera each while Allahabad had been given two cameras.
The need for radars had been long felt as the police were unable to officially book offenders on account of violating speed limits on city roads. Now with the equipments in place, speed limit signs would once again be put up on road sides for the road users to see and drive in accordance with the limit prescribed. Any deviation from the norm would invite penal action, the officer said.
Meanwhile, the tempo drivers too have been directed to remove slogans painted on their vehicles. The tempo drivers union has sought a week's time for the purpose and the traffic police department has granted the time with a rider that after a week a drive would be undertaken for implementation of orders.
