Kentucky State Police step up traffic enforcement

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Kentucky State Police plan to step up traffic enforcement this summer in an effort to reduce fatal accidents.
State police Commissioner Rodney Brewer says there are more people traveling on roadways during the summer, which creates a greater potential for accidents.
Brewer said troopers will especially be on the lookout for drivers who are impaired, speeding or breaking seat belt laws.
State police say that 309 people had died on Kentucky roadways as of May 29. Preliminary statistics show that's a 4 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The state police campaign will include over 1,000 road checks from June 1 through Labor Day weekend.
