New traffic ticketing system coming

MONTEGO BAY, St James - Commissioner of Police Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin says a new traffic ticketing system is expected to come on stream in September.
Speaking at a National Consultation on Crime forum in Montego Bay, the commissioner acknowledged that the existing system is not working.
The police have long complained that they were being hampered by their inability to track motorists with outstanding tickets for traffic offences.
Additionally, it is alleged that the ticketing system is being manipulated by corrupt cops.
The new ticketing system, when fully operational, will see traffic police personnel being outfitted with hand-held electronic pads and similar systems on their motorbikes or in their motor cars. Once data is fed into the system, the offender will be issued with an electronically generated ticket printed on the spot while similar information is fed into a central databank.
