More traffic cameras may be coming to Phoenix

Redflex Traffic Systems will be the new partner with the city of Phoenix on its red-light and speed enforcement cameras starting July 1.
The company will transition its equipment into 12 stationary cameras and two mobile speed vans, currently being operated by cross-town rival American Traffic Solutions Inc. The city’s program will not be expanded, but the new contract includes an option to bring more cameras online, Redflex officials said.
“This is a significant honor for Redflex. Phoenix is one of the largest cities in the U.S. and is home to our expanded U.S. corporate headquarters,” said Karen Finley, CEO and president of Redflex.
The contract is similar to the one that won Redflex the contract with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, with the cameras being funded by those who receive tickets.
