Weekend Check Point Planned on I-35

MASON CITY, IA—The Iowa State Patrol and North Iowa authorities are preparing to conduct check point inspections this weekend on Interstate 35 just North of Mason City.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety is calling the operation a vehicle safety inspection check point.
Beginning at 4 p.m., on Saturday July 11th, the Iowa State Patrol will conduct the inspections at the Department of Transportation Scales located at mile marker 211, south bound on I-35.
During this project they plan to flag down vehicles in groups of 10 and direct them into the inspection area.
Organizers plan to have 1 lane for inspecting commercial motor vehicles and 3 to 4 lanes for regular motor vehicles.
DPS said in a news release their mission will be to check the flagged vehicles to ensure all safety equipment is working properly.
Law officers will also be checking drivers’ licenses, registration plates and insurance cards.
Officers from at least 6 area counties and 2 city police agencies will be assisting the Iowa State Patrol on the inspections.
