SPRINGFIELD -- Drivers will see more law enforcement officers on Interstate 44, starting this Friday. It’s a special summer campaign called The Heat Is On. The enforcement will stretch from the Missouri-Oklahoma border to Marshfield. Police officers, sheriff's deputies and troopers will focus on speeders and seatbelt violators.
"We hope to educate drivers that speed is an issue, that it causes accidents and deaths. Obviously while we're out there educating. We'll be giving citations. This is a zero-tolerance effort," said Greene County Sheriff's Dept. Captain Jim Ferrel.
The Heat Is On will go through the rest of summer. Missouri Department of Transportation grants are paying for the extra officers to be on the highway.
