Cop pleads guilty to 149 mph speeding

    Published: Aug. 5, 2009 at 4:29 PM

An Ohio police officer who was caught driving 149 mph on a motorcycle pleaded guilty Wednesday to speeding charges.

Gahanna Police officer Christopher Thomas was fined $150 by Licking County Municipal Judge W. David Branstool and his driver's license was suspended for six months after he entered his guilty plea, the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch reported Wednesday.

Branstool said Thomas, 33, has likely seen first-hand the dangers of speeding during his nine years as a police officer.

"Those experiences are more sobering than anything I can tell you here today," he said.

Trooper Jason Highsmith, 35, who was clocked riding his motorcycle at 147 mph near Thomas on Interstate 70, pleaded not guilty to speeding charges and has a trial pending.

It is about time. I always see LEOs blaze past me on the highway. They need to learn that just because you have the badge doesn't mean it is okay to speed when there is no emergency.

I think he was OFF DUTY when caught.
You are correct because you have a badge it does not give you the right to speed off duty and get away with it.

My nephew in-law uses his as a "get out of jail free card" when off duty.
    That's soooo wrong!!!

Its surprising that they didnt gave him a chance. They do all they want most of the time , in service or not. Saw one doin or ''praticing'' U turns , starting the lights , spinning the tires and all. Doin this when there was cars. I tought he wanted to arest somebody but saw all the marks on the road farther. These are the same mofos that arrest you for going 5mph over

I understand any number larger than 9 is large, but could you at least chose either 149 or 147? It's not like you were writing this large book and forgot the speed.

Usually LEOs let off other LEOs for anything, no matter what the infraction (short of murder or drugs), it is glad to see that integrity is upheld in some parts of the country's law enforcement infrastructure.
