Crackdown on speeding, seat belt violations set for Friday
REGISTER STAFF REPORT • August 11, 2009
Troopers, deputies and police officers call it a traffic enforcement initiative; the public knows it as a crackdown on speeding and seat belt violations.
Whatever you call it, the next one is scheduled for Friday in Polk County.
The Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force, with officers from several local law enforcement agencies, is not saying where it will set up operations.
It doesn't take long for motorists to figure it out, however, because the group may have as many as four or five drivers pulled over at the same time.
The task force said in a press release this week that recent surveys show enforcement in a particular area affects the way people drive. The continuing enforcement operation is intended to reduce traffic fatalities and the severity of injuries in crashes.
