Area Towns Get Stimulus Money For Police

The city is among 23 Connecticut communities that will share about $768,000 in federal stimulus for police operations.

Some towns and cities are using the money to buy cruisers and computers, and others will spend it on overtime to staff special operations, according to a report for Gov. M. Jodi Rell. Her budget office is administering the grants.

Bristol will get $75,000 to provide extra patrols in high-crime areas and run other crime prevention programs. Among other communities in and near Greater Hartford that will benefit are: Coventry, $30,000 to upgrade its records system; Cromwell, $30,000 to replace 25 portable police radios; East Hartford, $75,000 for extra patrol assignments including traffic enforcement; East Windsor, $30,000 to buy an unmarked cruiser for traffic enforcement; Madison, $30,000 to buy tactical equipment; New Britain, $75,000 for anti-crime patrols and Police Athletic League equipment; West Hartford, $75,000 for a cruiser and traffic enforcement.

Ahhh yes..... Good old CT. People drive pretty fast through East Windsor and West Hartford so I can easily understand the improvements that they are desiring.

As an update to this story, I've seen the stimulus money spent in the worst way with my very own eyes. "Town Cops!!!!!!!!!!," several different departments, are now equipped with TruSpeeds. They have been conducting training seminars and demos all this week. I purposely went thru 2 separate speed traps yesterday and the LI worked like a charm. WTF is the world coming to? Town cops equipped with TruSpeeds!!??

Unfortunately, within the last year, I've seen the TruSpeed more than any other gun in CT.
