Culpeper town and county law enforcement have received a financial boost from the feds in the name of road safety.
Gov. Tim Kaine Wednesday announced the award of more than $17 million in federal grants to support traffic safety programs in Virginia. Of that, the Culpeper Police Department got $13,200 for selective enforcement, and the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office received $20,000 for the same purpose.
Selective enforcement programs on the State Police level include “Click It or Ticket” and “Checkpoint Strikeforce.”
According to the governor’s release, such programs have contributed to the recent reduction in traffic deaths. As of July 31, there were 68 fewer traffic fatalities in Virginia than last year.
