Albemarle County police officers will be getting some help catching speeders soon. The Sheriff's Department, which is normally just responsible for protecting the courts and serving warrants, got a grant to pay deputies overtime to work traffic enforcement operations.
"The officers enjoy doing it, it's not their normal routine of court security and civil process. Gives them a chance to do something a little different; make a little extra money and bring money back into the tax payer as well as slow people down hopefully," said Albemarle County Sheriff, Chip Harding.
Albemarle County Sheriff Chip Harding says the new grant is a win-win situation. He says the department has generated over $30,000 through 400-plus tickets that were written, and that revenue actually goes back into the county coffers.
