AND THE BEAT GOES ON: St. Louis police have continued their retaliation against KSDK (Channel 5) for airing a story in July about police officers parking their city vehicles in no parking zones.
As of today, six of the station’s news vehicles have been ticketed so many times that they can’t be driven legally. Despite that, station insiders say, management has asked staffers to drive the vehicles anyway and just try not to get caught doing anything wrong.
Management has told the staff that they are working with attorneys to try to resolve the issue.
The problem began when reporter Leisa Zigman was working on an investigative assignment and turned up examples of local police officers on and off duty parking their city vehicles in no-parking places around the city.
While the story was underway, police began ticketing illegally parked vehicles around KSDK’s headquarters at 1000 Market Street downtown. For years police had ignored it when employees routinely parked personal vehicles and station-owned vehicles in illegal spots around the building because parking is tight in that area.
We’ll be watching to see how this one gets worked out. Stay tuned …
