The Cincinnati Police Department has received a $88,229 grant to crack down on drunk drivers, speeders and other driving infractions, according to a police statement.

Cincinnati police plan to analyze crash data to direct enforcement efforts to areas with frequent crashes, to conduct high visibility enforcement operations and to hold educational and awareness events.
Overall, the grants support efforts to improve safety on roads by targeting impaired drivers, speeders, seat belt use, motorcycle safety and teen drivers, according to the statement. It also funds police overtime.
The grant, from the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Ohio Traffic Safety Office, is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In the past three years, fatalities on Ohio’s roads have decreased to near record lows, according to the statement. Cincinnati police are working with other local, state and federal agencies to continue this trend.
