Exclamation NV - More officers on patrol over weekend

More officers on patrol over weekend

    Nevada Appeal Staff Report

Additional law enforcement officers along with troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol will be conducting DUI saturation patrols throughout the Nevada Day holiday weekend.

With a grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, this is an effort to put more officers on the streets to look for motorists who have committed moving violations or who appear to be driving impaired, said NHP Spokesman Trooper Chuck Allen.

Although no DUI checkpoints are currently planned this weekend, motorists will see additional marked patrol vehicles as residents and visitors celebrate Nevada's birthday, Allen said.

He said the following are some of the signs troopers are trained to look for in identifying suspected drunken drivers:

    • Inability to maintain a travel lane

    • Difficulty negotiating curves or turns in the roadway

    • Speeding

    • Driving without headlights during hours of darkness

    • Wrong-way drivers

    • Unsafe lane changes

    • Throwing a lit cigarette from a vehicle

To report a suspected DUI driver on any highway, motorists may call the Department of Public Safety Communications Center by dialing *NHP from any cell phone.

    Las Vegas -

    Police Weekend Crackdown For Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner and authorities in Southern Nevada want to make sure drunken drivers don't follow. Law enforcement agencies will be increasing patrols to watch for people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs over the weekend. A close eye will be kept out for impaired drivers, speeders and violations of seat belt and child safety laws. A couple of the areas that'll be under increased law enforcement scrutiny will be U.S. 95, from Boulder Highway to Cheyenne Boulevard and on I-15 and Las Vegas Boulevard from Sahara Avenue to St. Rose Parkway.

I see these things all the time, it doesn't mean they're drunk, just idiots.

And it's funny (or not) how "speeding" is always on the list. Everyone speeds, most don't get into wrecks. Does that mean we're all intoxicated?

Maybe they should have a DWS crackdown. That is, "Driving While Stupid".
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

I know if 1/1000 get into an accident because they speed thats normal to me. The same statistic could be for driving with low pressure in one tire causing a pull to one side....
