Local patrols to get boost from grant money

Font Size:Default font sizeLarger font size The La Crosse Police Department and the La Crosse County Sheriff's Department received $50,000 and $45,000 state Department of Transportation grants respectively that will be used to fund extra patrols to crackdown on speeders and drunken drivers. Extra enforcement began today and will continue throughout 2010.
La Crosse police also was awarded a $15,000 youth alcohol prevention grant that will help support compliance checks at
taverns and establishments that sell alcohol. It also will provide education on underage drinking and fund patrols for underage alcohol party enforcement.
La Crosse police also received a $2,000 bicycle and pedestrian grant that will be used to help reduce the number of car crashes with bicyclists and pedestrians.
