Police Setting Sobriety Checkpoint for Holiday
Marion Star Staff Report November 21, 2009

MARION - A sobriety checkpoint will be set up in Marion County during the upcoming holiday weekend.

The Marion Police Department, Marion County Sheriff's Office and Marion post of the Ohio Highway Patrol will coordinate to deter people from driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Additional information will be released before the checkpoint is set up.

The checkpoint and other traffic enforcement blitzes are funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Traffic Safety.

All three law enforcement agencies report there will be increased traffic enforcement through the weekend, with a higher number of officers on patrol.

Last year, the highway patrol's local post investigated 16 crashes, five of which resulted in minor injuries. Troopers also made four impaired driver arrests.
