CHARLOTTE, NC (WIS) - Troopers say a Rock Hill man used a borrowed BMW to ram a woman's minivan after the two cars wrecked in Gaston County, North Carolina, seriously injuring the minivan driver and her passenger.
The initial incident happened near the Lowell exit off I-85 late Saturday night, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
According to a state trooper, Robert Hezekiah Samples was driving his friend's BMW when he was involved in minor accident with a minivan.
Both drivers pulled onto the shoulder of the interstate. The woman called 911 and then walked to the BMW to exchange insurance and driver's license information with Samples.
She told the Highway Patrol Samples would not lower his window to talk with her, so she got back into her car and continued driving.
When she got about two miles down the road, she claims Samples drove beside her and rammed her minivan, causing her to cross over three lanes of traffic and crash.
The highway patrol said Samples initially caused about $3,000 in damage, but once he rammed the minivan, the damage to both vehicles exceeded $13,000.
The minivan driver and her passenger suffered serious injuries. Both were taken to Carolinas Medical Center.
Samples was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with serious injury. He was taken to the Gaston County jail and given a $50,000 bond.
