LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) - A retired police officer from Lewiston who was given a $75 speeding ticket two years ago has had the citation thrown out in court.
David Estes fought the speeding ticket all the way to the Idaho Court of Appeals. The Lewiston Tribune reports that the court decided to reverse his 2007 speeding conviction earlier this week.
Estes represented himself in court, and says it's a victory for the ordinary person.
A state trooper ticketed Estes for 65 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone. In the appellate court, Estes successfully argued that the state didn't offer enough evidence of the trooper's accuracy rate in estimating speed.
