Police targeting drunks, speeders and aggressive drivers on I-77 and other roads

State Highway PatrolAKRON, Ohio — The State Highway Patrol, the Summit County Sheriff's office and police from Akron, Stow, Boston Heights and Richfield will crack down on impaired, speeding or aggressive drivers late Friday night and early Saturday morning. The goal is to reduce fatal and serious accidents in Summit, Cuyahoga, Stark and Tuscarawas counties, where 13 alcohol-related fatalities occurred between 2006 and 2009. Six of the fatalities occurred on Interstate 77 in Summit County and two occurred on Route 8.
Also on Friday and early Saturday, as part of this project, the Summit County OMVI Task Force will set up a sobriety checkpoint on Ohio 241 near I-77 in Green.
