Brick police get license plate reader
BRICK: Township police will have one cruiser equipped with a license plate reader.
The Township Council recently approved the purchase of the reader, which can read up to one plate per second in certain conditions.
The total cost of the system over the next four years will be $31,005.
The system will alert police officers to cars that are potentially being driven by people who have warrants issued for their arrest.
Lakewood has one car that records license plates when patrolling areas deemed of critical interest to the Department of Homeland Security, which funded the $30,000 system.
