Dover, Del. -
Eight people have been arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and/or drugs during the first weekend of a statewide NFL Playoff enforcement mobilization.
Delaware State Police made five of the DUI arrests, while Middletown, Milford, and the Millsboro Police made the other three during DUI saturation patrols conducted over the weekend.
The enforcement is being coordinated by the state Office of Highway Safety, spokeswoman Andrea Summers said.
These agencies as well as the remaining 19 participating police agencies also issued 22 citations for seat belt violations, five for child restraint violations, apprehended one wanted individual, made two drug arrests, two felony arrests and issued 266 citations for other traffic violations.
Throughout January, 23 state, county, and municipal law enforcement agencies will conduct saturation patrols on Saturdays and Sundays during the NFL playoff season starting as early as 4 p.m.
Additional saturation patrols will be scheduled for Super Bowl Sunday along with a sobriety checkpoint to be conducted by the New Castle County DUI Task Force.
