Speed trap nets 23 drivers
Charlotte County no longer provides the island with a full-time deputy, but when it comes to traffic enforcement in Boca Grande the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office was on the job on Wednesday along the causeway at the northern end of the island.
More than a half dozen deputies were using state-of-the-art laser speed detection systems to ring up motorists as they came off the southbound ramp of the swing bridge. Deputies said they were only stopping people who they say were going more than 15 mph over the 20 mph speed limit. The deputies made 23 stops and issued 16 tickets and seven warnings.
