Indiana police crack down on drunk driving

Police held a news conference Friday to announce a statewide crackdown on drunk driving.

From March 5th to 21st, the Indiana State Police and local law enforcement agencies will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and ticketing aggressive drivers.

Last March, there were 10 fatalities involving intoxicated drivers in Indiana.

“Drunk driving is not a socially accepted norm and we want to make sure that a drunk driver does not cause the tragedies we've experienced. Our goal is to take those people off the roads and keep our community safe,” said Mishawaka Police Department Lt. Tim Williams.

Dozens of extra officers will be working in the area throughout March to keep the streets safe.

Their overtime pay is being financed through a grant.

Well, this is one area where I have no problem with extra enforcement. A bona-fide public safety issue. That, and speeding buses.
