Default Radar Detector Sales Speed Up As Motorists Fear Ban

    Car Pages UK

The Government has voted to ban radar detectors that can detect mobile hidden speed cameras and laser guns; the new law will come in to effect next year, once the House of Lords gives final approval.

According to one supplier weekly sales of the devices have risen by over 300% in recent weeks with motorists trying to beat the ban and the availability of the units.

At this time it is legal for a motorist to buy and use a radar detector to spot mobile speed cameras - when the new law comes into force, only GPS trap locators, that cannot detect mobile speed traps, will be remain legal.

Over 2,500 mobile speed cameras operate throughout the UK and this figure is expected to rise once the radar detector ban takes effect. In one five hour police shift, a mobile speed camera gave 329 motorists speeding tickets, an average of one every 58 seconds - raising almost £20,000.

Sounds like they need to start talking to their appointed legislation reps.

In fact, we need to start talking to OUR appointed reps.

Theres been talk of banning radar detectors in Western Australia recently too. A couple of reports on the evening news and current affair programs. They always just give the negative side of the story - license to speed, and never mention the positive side (that I believe anyway) which comes from the threat of laser which makes an rd user even more speed wary than normal drivers in many situations, cause after a while you get paranoid about it.
I understand they are only illegal in 3 states in the U.S, but can anyone tell me did it used to be more than 3? Have they gone from 0-3, or peeled back laws in other states down to just 3 remaining?

VA as the only state and DC as the only city apart of any other state... but the VA ban is just a joke, very low fine and no-confiscation of your RD, would you like to know the Ontario/Quebec law about RDs?
