ONEIDA, N.Y. (WPIX) - Police were led on a high speed chase throughout Oneida early Sunday morning that ultimately ended in a crash and DWI charges for the man behind the wheel.
The chase started at around 3:20 a.m. on April 25, when New York State troopers were driving north on State Route 46 in Oneida when they were passed by a car, also traveling north, at a high rate of speed, according to State police.
Police clocked the car traveling at 153 mph down State Route 46, which immediately prompted a chase. The driver of the vehicle -- identified as Shane M. Crolick, 20, of Westchester County -- became disabled after he struck a guardrail at the intersection of State Route 46 and Mount Hope Avenue.
The three passengers traveling in the car with Crolick did not sustain any injuries in the collision. Authorities say all three victims were released.
Authorities issued a breathalyzer test to Crolick, in which he registered a .12%. The legal limit in New York State is .08%.
Crolick was charged with DWI, driving with a blood alcohol level greater than .08%, unlawful fleeing of a police officer, reckless endangerment and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.
He was arraigned in Oneida City Court and released to Madison County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. He is due back in court on April 30.
