EMPHASIS: Operation C.A.R.E and 10-Mile Trooper Project To Be Conducted

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces that Troop C officers, in an effort to promote safety and to reduce the number of crashes in the Troop C area, will be conducting two projects throughout the Memorial Day Holiday period. Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) will be conducted on Interstates 270, 70, 64, 55, 44, and U.S. Highway 40/61. This effort will run the entire holiday counting period which starts at 6 p.m. on May 28 and will continue until 11:59 p.m. on May 31, 2010.

In addition, on Friday, May 28, and Monday, May 31, 2010, Troop C will run the "10-Mile Trooper" project, which means Troop C will post a trooper every 10 miles on Interstates 70 and 44. The objective of the project is to place a trooper in close proximity of motorists who may need assistance and to aggressively enforce all traffic violations which may contribute to unsafe traveling conditions.

“This weekend is the start of the summer season and we will make every effort to keep the motoring public safe during their travels," said Captain Johnson "Last year we saw an 18% reduction in fatalities in the Troop C area, and we will do everything we can to further this reduction. So, please, wear your seat belt and don't drink and drive."
