The Traffic Department of the St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force received a donation of a radar gun and is better equipped to tackle the problem of speeding motorists.

The Phantom Handheld K. Radar Gun was presented to the Traffic Department by TDC’s SNIC and the St. Kitts Rotary Club of Liamuiga.

The presentation was made by Nesta Seaton-Clarke, general manager of SNIC and Dr. Cameron Wilkinson, president of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga, to Inspector Cromwell Henry, who accepted the equipment on behalf of the police force.

Clarke, in handing over the high-speed tracking device, expressed the company’s pleasure in being associated with the procurement and reiterated SNIC’s continued commitment to assist in reducing the number of traffic related incidents on the island.

“We got on board when this idea was first suggested and worked with the Rotary Club of Liamuiga to source and purchase the equipment that is worth over $2,500.00. SNIC is very pleased to be associated with this initiative and is happy to play its part in assisting personnel within the department to reduce the number of vehicular accidents in St. Kitts,” Clarke said.

Dr. Wilkinson, who also expressed his club’s pleasure in partnering with the Traffic Department, made mention of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga’s Pedestrian Crossing Painting Project and the club’s involvement was due to a growing concern for the safety of the pedestrian and motorist.

“Following our Pedestrian Crossing Painting Project earlier in 2005, we did not hesitate to get involved in with an undertaking that would further complement that venture. Therefore, it was only fitting that we demonstrate our support for this endeavour out of our concern for pedestrians and motorists, alike.”

In accepting the donation, Inspector Cromwell Henry thanked both SNIC and Rotary for their continued support of the ongoing efforts of the department.

“On behalf of Commissioner Robert Jeffers, officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the Traffic Department, I wish to say thank you to SNIC and the Rotary Club of Liamuiga. This gesture represents the combined support for the continuing efforts of the Department in helping to make our streets safer for all our citizens.”

The Phantom radar gun has the seal of approval of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and is an easy to use professional stationary radar gun. It is invisible to all radar detectors and instantly registers violators and “displays speed levels with fast-action, long-range, super-accuracy.”
