The Málaga provincial traffic authority says that the recently installed speed cameras are having a positive effect.
José Vico, the Provincial Traffic chief, says that areas that have a speed camera have seen an average speed reduction of between 4 and 10 km/h. Mr Vico said numerous studies have shown that there is an average 3% reduction in traffic accidents for every kilometer drop in speed.
He also pointed out that, if the physical conditions made it possible, cameras would continue to be installed in areas that have seen the most accidents due to excessive speed.
