SEATTLE – The Washington State Patrol has released new video of a motorcyclist doing wheelies at 100 mph and weaving through traffic on the freeway.
The video was shot June 5 by a state patrol airplane. Just before 7 p.m. that night, a trooper headed south on Interstate 5 near 145th Street NE spotted the green motorcycle headed north at high speed. The trooper called in the aircraft, Smokey 3, to follow it.
The rider can be seen zipping by cars on I-5, even while doing a wheelie. The rider exited from I-5 to State Route 525 and eventually passed another trooper. When the trooper began chasing the motorcycle, the rider ran red lights while trying to get away.
The rider eventually stopped at a residence in the Mukilteo area. The trooper pulled into the driveway as the rider pushed the motorcycle into the garage. The suspect then ran inside and the trooper called for backup. The suspect was eventually arrested.
Troopers say the same suspect was under investigation for felony eluding approximately one week earlier. It's believed the suspect has been involved in several other pursuits.
The state patrol says it wants to send a strong safety message, not only to motorcycle riders, but the drivers around them.
"Now that the summer is here we do not want any motorcycle fatalities or serious injury collisions involving motorcycles," said Trooper Keith Leary.
Watch the video...it's pretty amusing.
