That's messed up.
This is why I don't agree with states allowing or requiring a cash bond upon receiving a traffic citation during a stop. Some states require it for out of state drivers, which makes sense (so they don't take the cite and run, never paying it) but that also makes it all the more worse - out of state drivers don't always know the laws, so they may be willing to do whatever to take care of the ticket ASAP.
Requiring a motorist to contact the court regarding citations is the way to go. Give them the paper and then the court can tell them all of the info they need to know. Most states do, but IIRC there's still a few states that require the cash upon the stop. And it's not the officers' decision either most of the time, it's what the law has written out.
This officer just happened to get caught. Who knows how many more LEOs are doing this and not caught?
The articles don't say anything about posting bonds. They say he just flat out TOOK their money from their pockets and kept it. Obviously no dash cams going on there. But this was some young hood rat with a badge, living just like he was raised. I'm sure his mama is proud. Good riddance.
Regardless, this definitely isn't good.
That is simply disgusting.I wonder how many more are out there doing that.It certainly leaves a big?
An undercover investigator drove through the officer's patrol area Friday while carrying $273 in marked bills.
Dornellien stopped the car for a traffic violation. He pocketed the marked bills, handed the investigator a ticket then left without returning the cash, officials said.
Bribery. You're doing it wrong.
