Here's why the leader of this petition drive wants "traffic calming" devices installed in his neighborhood:
HTF is a speed hump going to prevent vandals from keying his car or throwing rocks through the windows?Since moving to the Catonsville neighborhood three years ago, Alterman said he has faced a steady stream of vandalism while parking his vehicles on the street.
He said his property has been egged at least a half dozen times, his truck has been keyed and struck by another vehicle and his Honda was totaled after someone threw rocks through the windows.
Using stop signs for traffic calming is like using a sledgehammer to fix a watch.Though Alterman said he thinks stop signs would be a quicker and cheaper solution to the problem, he said he is glad something is being done.
“Even though we may still have the same volume, the cars at certain points of the road will at least have to approach the speed limit.” he said. “So that’s an improvement, because now they can drive 50, 60, 70 miles an hour uninterrupted the whole way down the street.”
It's not that huge of a road but it does look like it might get a lot of cut-through traffic. It looks like stop signs would fit in there all things considered but I don't think they should add speed bumps. Really, I don't think speed bumps should be on ANY road except for parking lots or streets with a PSL under like 20mph.
Speed bumps are a unique thing anyhow. When concrete ones are added after the fact they are often pulled from the ground due to trucks, snowplows, etc. and when removable, plastic ones are added they could be vandalized just as much as a mailbox. I don't think that's the solution to their problem.
If they have that much vandalism and they need to have special mailboxes to stop people from crushing them, then I think the street has bigger problems than just aggressive drivers.

What does traffic have to do with getting your house egged and car vandalized. Sounds like he just needs to stop being a douche.

The county may add a series of speed humps and other traffic calming devices to the Catonsville road.
The plan to add six speed humps and two traffic islands depends on the number of signatures Rockwell Avenue resident
Eric Alterman can gather on a petition supporting the measures.
The interesting thing about speed bumps is that when I was younger and had a POS truck I used to go fast as hell to "smooth" out the bump when I drove over it. It's been my experience that speed bumps either make people creep very slow over them = bad / Or they speed up like crazy to smooth out the bump = bad.
Either way = FAIL concerning speed bumps IMO.
