We could use these in Fl too, except I have never seen a LEO write a ticket in the rain unless there is an accident. Nobody wants to get wet, including the cops. I guess this was one of those inventions that is obsolete from conception.

You must be lucky, LEO's up here write them in rain, sleet, snow, or shine... especially Troopers. They put on their serious hats here, and its like they are invincible to such adverse elements.

Eh...there's a BIG difference between state government and city government, especially in Pennsylvania. State legislature in PA might not want radar to be passed and they might not like to move forward with technology, but a lot of cities don't follow that lead...especially Pittsburgh.

PSP has had in car printers for a while now...but not all barracks and not all cars have the printers in them. The water-proof citation is a new thing to me though.

The capability is there for all police in PA to use electronic ticketing programs though. PA licenses have three bar codes on the back of them, each of which serves a different purpose...and registration cards have one bar code on them. You could make and print a citation using that method in about 20 seconds if you know what you're doing...even if it's your first time it would only take like 1-2 minutes. Much quicker than writing it all out, and more legible too.

Pittsburgh police didn't roll out those new in car cameras until recently when a situation came up where allegedly some officers injured a high school/college student walking down the street. However, now they want to get them in all of the cars, and thankfully they started with new technology instead of trying to buy up old stuff that other departments are retiring. It sounds like a good project but it's gonna be a while before every car will be equipped with a camera and microphone.

They've always tried to move forward with technology though...a few years ago they acquired a bunch of lidar guns for the motorcycle officers for testing (which was legal) however some confusion came up and the officers ended up writing tickets with the lidar (which was illegal)...the court found out and all of the citations were dropped.
