So 22 percent of the commercial trucks on one roadway were placed out of service due to mechanical problems. That's almost one in four trucks...kinda scary.

Could you imagine if they increased the strength of the motor carrier unit by double?

Two of the departments just outside my area really emphasize on commercial vehicle enforcement. They generally pull over about 5 trucks per day and usually end up with a few citations per day, at least. It's pretty interesting.

The worst thing about it is the companies are the ones pressuring their drivers to run rigs like that. Trucking is one of the worst industries to work in.

*Normally* equipment violations on commercial vehicles are issued to the company. Driving violations or license violations are issued to the driver.

I guess the company could somehow punish the driver still, but on the legal side of things it's the company's issue once the citation is issued. Privately-owned big rigs excluded.
